This typological project is devoted to the study of strategies used in West African languages to encode property concepts and the question whether these strategies are based on common heritage or whether they are due to language contacts. The results will contribute to general theories on the topic.
The projects is carried out in collaboration with the French research group LLACAN, CNRS Paris. While researchers at Bayreuth university concentrate on Gur, Mande, Saharan and selected Chadic languages, the French team investigates Central Sudanic, Adamawa, Atlantic, Cushitic, Chadic, Berber and Semitic languages.
