Dr Mouhamed Abdallah Ly is Chef du laboratoire des études sociales at the Institut Fondamental d'Afrique Noire Cheikh Anta Diop (IFAN) in Dakar, Senegal. His research is situated in sociolinguistics, anthropological linguisitcs, and discourse analysis. As part of the Monika Christine Rohmer’s BIGSAS mentoring team, Dr Ly visitied the University of Bayreuth from 24 June to 01 July. This allowed for intensive exchange on joint current and upcoming research projects in the field of ecolinguistics with Ms Rohmer. Further, on 25 June Dr Ly presented on the topic of “Sénégal, attitudes et pratiques linguistiques dans la société « islamo-wolof »” [Senegal, linguistic attitudes and practices in the “Islamo-Wolof” society] in the framework of the Research Colloquium of the Department of African Languages and Literatures. Dr Ly’s presence in Bayreuth was cofunded by the Instute of African Studies (IAS) and the Bayreuth International Graduate School of African Studies (BIGSAS).
