Rémi Armand Tchokothe is Assistant Professor in African linguistics and literatures in African languages. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics and English Literature from the University of Buea (2001) and a Magister Artium in African Linguistics, Literatures in African Languages and Development Sociology from the University of Bayreuth (2006).

He was in parental leave from July 2006 to March 2008. From April 2008 to March 2012 he was a research associate in the Bayreuth International Graduate School on African Studies. In this framework he wrote his dissertation titled Transgression in Swahili Narrative Fiction and its Reception (published with Lit Verlag, 2014). His research interest areas are: Swahili literature, literature from the Island of Mayotte, orature, market research and reception, studies of literatures in African languages, literature and/as development, intercultural translation, African urban youth languages in the diaspora and critical African studies. He was a visiting lecturer at the Université de Lubumbashi (Democratic Republic of Congo), at the Centre Universitaire de Formation et de Recherches de Mayotte, at the Université de Sousse (Tunisia) and at the University of Fort Hare (South Africa).

Rémi Tchokothe is married and has three children.

Regional foci: Mayotte, Tanzania, Kenya, Democratic Republic of Congo and Cameroon
