Irina Turner is contracted Academic Councillor at Afrikanistik 1, African Linguistics and Literatures in African Languages. After some years in public administration and private business in South Africa and Germany, she feels very home again in the academia.
Her dissertation within the Bayreuth International Graduate School of African Studies (BIGSAS) dealt with the discourse changes of post-apartheid State of the Nation speeches in South Africa (published with LIT 2015). She studied Arts Management at the University of Applied Sciences in Potsdam, Germany (2005) and Media Theory and Practice at the University of Cape Town, South Africa (2008).
She teaches introductory courses in academic writing and presentation; for higher semesters, interdisciplinary courses at the intersection of text, media and image, and for Master’s level linguistic field research.
Her research interests are interdisciplinary questions of cultural and media studies and applied linguistics which enquire communication practices and language change in South Africa.
